A Copa do Mundo começou oficialmente neste domingo, 20, no Catar. A cerimônia de abertura aconteceu no estádio Al Bayt.
O estádio da abertura tem capacidade para até 60 mil torcedores e receberá oito partidas do Mundial. Seis na fase de grupos, um jogo das oitavas de final e o das semifinais. A partida de abertura será entre o anfitrião Catar e o Equador às 13h.
O evento contou com o ator Morgan Freeman, que narrou o texto inicial da cerimônia. Bandeiras e as camisas das 32 seleções desfilaram no campo. Os mascotes e musicas oficias de outras edições também participaram da festa.
O Emir do Catar, Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, discursou para abrir o evento. "Recebemos a todos de braços abertos na Copa do Mundo 2022. Nós trabalhamos e fizemos mutos esforços para garantir o sucesso desta edição. Investimos para o bem de toda a humanidade. Durante 28 dias, vamos acompanhar essa festa de futebol nesse espaço de diálogo e civilização. As pessoas, por mais que sejam de culturas, nacionalidades e orientações diferentes, vão se reunir aqui no Catar. Que beleza juntar essas diferenças todas. Desejo a todas as seleções muito sucesso. Para todos vocês meus desejos de felicidades. Bem-vindos a Doha", disse.
